This project, located at the intersection of Dudley Avenue and Lindig Avenue in the St. Paul campus is planned as an expansion to the recently completed Plant Growth Facility East building, which houses the BL2 Insect Containment Facility. When Plant Growth Facility East was constructed utilities were oversized to meet anticipated future expansion. The proximity of the Plant Pathology research expansion to the present Insect Containment Facility will allow enhanced insect / pathogen studies across both facilities.
The project includes the construction of a containment laboratory and greenhouse space, designed to completely isolate the research work from the exterior environment. Extensive physical and mechanical controls will be required to provide the required isolation. The following spaces will be provided: receiving, laboratory, preparation, equipment and work areas; inoculation, misting, and growth rooms; greenhouse rooms; support spaces, air locks, toilets, showers and dressing rooms. The project will consist of approximately 4,100 gross square feet on the ground floor, 2,100 gross square feet of mechanical basement space and about 150 gross square feet of remodeled existing space.
