There have been more than sixty remodeling projects within Kolthoff Hall over the last thirty-five years; however no building wide renovation has occurred. To meet new code requirements and provide a healthy environment for faculty, staff, and students, the building will require a new ventilation system and other safety upgrades. This project will replace obsolete mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems to support safer teaching and research activities in chemistry. Sprinkler and alarm systems will be installed, elevators and restrooms will be upgraded, and repair of the building's interior and exterior will extend the useful life of the facility. The key drivers in this renovation are building code upgrades, changes in scientific research requirements, environmental health concerns, updated facilities in function, finish and equipment, utility infrastructure improvements and exterior maintenance and waterproofing.
